An argument is taking place in the street. I notice something that will settle the argument in one person’s favour. They can both then know the truth of the matter. Instead I complement them on their bicycle setups. They smile, we chat about bicycles.
The process of psychotherapy can be seen as centrally a search for truth, especially as lack of truth and clarity may well have played a major part in leaving us confused and distressed.
It can be formulated as an attempt to live well, which is most likely, of course, to involve truth seeking. It may involve speaking truth to power.
Sometimes though, it is more helpful to admire bicycles.
